Bit Defender is a great security suite, and just happens to be the one that I use on my laptop as well as on my PC. It is made by the SoftWin company (here is some info on Softwin), and continually wins award after award for it's protection abilities as well as it's ease of use.

• Bit Defender Anti Virus
  • BitDefender Antivirus uses very robust and sophisticated scanning engines that are certified by ICSA labs, Checkmark, Virus Bulletin and TUV. The superior scanning engines will scan and clean virus files on access, thus minimizing the risk of data loss. Automated hourly updates ensure you are protected from even the most recent computer virus threats.
• Anti Spam
  • BitDefender’s antispam filter effectively deals with the spam problem before the junk hits your inbox. It maintains a blacklist of known spammer addresses, effectively filtering spam out so you don’t have to look at it.
• BitDefender Personal Firewall
  • This firewall monitors all network traffic and effectively blocks inbound hacker attempts as well as outbound ports that spyware might use (via an application) to send your personal data to a cyber criminal. This software firewall also controls the access time and permissions for all users. The optional “setalth” mode makes your laptop or computer invisible to hackers. This is very important for laptop users, who are frequently connected to public wireless networks.

  • BitDefender’s antispyware application monitors spyware threats in real-time. With automatic hourly updates, you can be sure your laptop (or computer) and your data is protected from even the most current new spyware.

An internet timer feature allows you to block access to the internet during certain time periods. Even if you don’t have kids, BitDefender’s parental control features can help protect your laptop from certain types of internet security threats. You can set the timer to block internet access during times when you are just working locally on your laptop or computer for instance, thus effectively stopping any possibility of incoming or outgoing internet traffic.

BitDefender Internet Security Suite is one of the better “all in one” solutions for total laptop and computer protection. This is the computer security suite that I use, and I highly recommend it.

I like Bit Defender because it offers outstanding overall protection for my laptop, without dragging my system down. A lot of computer security suites really put a drain on your system, which is normal because there's a heck of a lot of scanning going on behind the scenes. I've tested at least a dozen internet security suites on my laptop and found that Bit Defencer did the best job with the least amount of performance hit.

Bit Defender is one of the few internet security companies that offers automatic hourly updates, which ensures your protection no matter what time it is or where you are at. I like this a lot, because I feel I am much better protected against "zero day" attacks, which are brand new viruses or spyware that spread like wildfire. Many computer security companies take a day or longer to come up with a definition for a new virus or spyware, but BitDefender works around the clock to develop definitions and deliver them as needed.
